Whether you’re packing for a trip, boarding a flight, or just curious about how much your skateboard weighs, it all depends on the width of your deck and the size of your trucks and wheels. Other components such as bearings, hardware, and grip tape are essentially the same weight across all brands and board styles.

So to make this question easy to answer, I took apart all my skateboards and weighed out each part for total accuracy. No manufacturers estimates, no guesstimates, just cold hard weight facts for your reading pleasure.

The table below summarizes the weight ranges for a skateboard and its components:

Skateboard PartAverage Weight In LBSAverage Weight In KG
Skateboard Deck2 – 3.4 lbs0.9 – 1.5 kg
Trucks1.36 – 1.71 lbs0.62 – 0.78 kg (620 – 780 grams)
Wheels0.5 – 0.77 lbs0.22 – 0.34 kg (220 – 340 grams)
Bearings0.2 lbs0.09 kg (90 grams)
Hardware0.012 lbs0.005kg (5 grams)
Bushings0.125 lbs0.05 kg (50 grams)
Griptape0.28 lbs0.12 kg (120 grams)
Average Total Weight:4.47 – 6.4 lbs2 – 2.9 kg

The numbers in the table above serve as estimates for the weight of each component based on the parts I currently own and skate. They may fluctuate up or down by a small amount depending on the build material and size of your components.

Now to get a better idea of what factors will play a role in the weight of each part of your skateboard, let’s break them down one by one.

How Much Does A Complete Skateboard Weigh?

A complete skateboard with trucks and wheels attached weighs between 4.47 – 6.4lbs (2 – 2.9kg). The skateboard I ride with an 8.47″ deck width weights 5.1lbs (2.3kg) putting it right in the middle of this range.

You will find that the weight of your complete deck will change based primarily on the width of your deck and the size of your wheels. A wider deck requires wider trucks, both of which will make your board heavier. Likewise, the larger your wheel diameter, the heavier your wheels will be adding to the overall weight.

How Much Does A Cruiser Skateboard Weigh?

A cruiser board often has a wider deck, wider trucks, and larger wheels compared to a regular skateboard. Due to its added size, a cruiser board weighs 6.14lbs (2.7kg). Smaller cruiser boards such as penny boards with a more narrow and plastic deck weigh a bit less than that, coming in at 5.5lbs (2.4kg).

How Much Does A Skateboard Deck Weigh?

Without anything else on the board, a skateboard deck alone weighs 2 – 3.4lbs ( 0.9 – 1.5kg). The weight will vary based on the width and length of the deck.

Now if you’re basing your skateboard deck purchase solely on weight, you’re looking at it the wrong way. The width of a deck will offer pros and cons for cruising or tricks skating, while also offering more comfort based on your shoe size. For example, someone with larger feet won’t enjoy riding a narrow deck even though it’s lighter. Instead, you should skate what best suits your skating style and feels comfortable to try tricks with.

How Much Do Skateboard Trucks Weigh?

For a set of two skateboard trucks, you’re looking at a weight of 1.36 – 1.71lbs (0.62 -0.78kg). There are a couple of factors that will affect the weight of trucks with the first being their width, and the second being build material.

Depending on the width of your skateboard deck, you need to get a truck width to match. Obviously the wider the truck, the heavier it will be. Typically the widest trucks are found on cruiser boards.

Skateboard trucks are typically made out of aluminum, but other alloys are used as well that alter the weight. On higher-end trucks, they have a hollow hanger which helps reduce the weight of the trucks too. Unfortunately, these hollow-forged trucks cost a bit more.

How Much Do Skateboard Wheels Weigh?

For a set of four skateboard wheels, you’ll find a weight of 0.5 – 0.77lbs (0.22 – 0.34kg). The larger your wheel diameter, the heavier your wheels will be. For example, my 54mm Spitfire Wheels weigh 0.5lbs (0.22kg), but my 60mm OJ Wheels weigh 0.7lbs (0.34kg).

How Much Do Skateboard Bearings Weigh?

Skateboard bearings weigh 0.2lbs (0.09kg) for 8 total bearings. Your bearings may weigh slightly differently based on their build material. For example, ceramic bearings will shed a few grams off of a steel bearing. Admittedly, you won’t be able to tell the difference in weight but there are some advantages to how they spin. You can learn everything about finding the perfect bearings here in our bearing guide.

How Much Does Skateboard Hardware Weigh?

The nuts and bolts (aka hardware) that mount your trucks to the deck weigh just 0.012 lbs (0.005 kg). These are by far the lightest part of a skateboard. The hardware used to find this weight was 1″, so if you use longer hardware such as 1.5″ it will weigh slightly more.

How Much Do Skateboard Bushings Weigh?

Skateboard bushings come in all shapes and sizes, but the typical set of barrel and conical bushings weighs 0.125lbs (0.05kg).

How Much Does Grip Tape Weigh?

A full sheet of grip tape weighs 0.28lbs (0.12kg) with dimensions of 9×33 inches. Once the grip tape is applied to a deck and trimmed to size, some of its weight is shed as well.

What Is A Good Weight For A Skateboard?

If you’re in the middle of buying a skateboard, weight shouldn’t be a big factor in your decision. However, with the averages given here in this post, you know the general guideline of what to expect. For a complete skateboard, you can expect a weight between 4.47 – 6.4lbs (2 – 2.9kg) when built with quality components.
